In a move that surprised me a little, Tuesday, the Metropolitan Opera in New York City launched a partnership with online music seller Rhapsody to make their entire recording collection available online. That's 100 operas recorded since 1937 available on your computer at home only for the low-low price of a one month subscription to Rhapsody Unlimited - $12.99USD.
For those of you that prefer to see your culture but are not willing to make the trek to Toronto's Four Season Centre for the National Ballet of Canada' production of the Nutcracker, here's a deal for you: the Nation Ballet will be simulcasting their December 22 matinee of the holiday favourite into 69 Cineplex theatres across the country.
Although the price of the High-Definition Tchaikovsky is a little more than for that of entire Met collection, the $19.95 per adult price should guarantee at least a few wannabe Sugar Plum Fairies will be there to get the theatre seats a little more sitcky.
